Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is the province’s economic immigration program. It works in partnership with the Government of Canada through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The OINP recognises and nominates people for permanent residence who have the skills and experience the Ontario economy needs. Foreign workers, international students and others with the right skills, experience and education apply to the OINP for a nomination. The Government of Canada makes the final decision to approve applications for permanent residence.
There are three ways you may qualify for a nomination:
Employer job offer category: for workers who already have a permanent job offer from an Ontario employer
Human capital category: for workers who have valuable work experience, education, language skills, and a profile in Canada’s Express Entry system; or for graduate students
Business category: for entrepreneurs looking to start a new or buy an existing business in Ontario

Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is an economic immigration program that nominates people for permanent residence in Alberta. Nominees must have skills to fill job shortages or be planning to buy or start a business in Alberta. They must also be able to provide for their families. The program is run by the governments of Alberta and Canada.
If you are nominated through the program, you may apply for permanent residence status together with your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada manages applications for permanent residence. The federal government also makes final decisions on these applications.

Criminal Inadmissibility/ Application for Rehabilitation
Inadmissibility: In general, temporary residents and applicants applying for permanent residence are considered to be criminally inadmissible if the person:
– was convicted of an offence in Canada;
– was convicted of an offence outside of Canada that is considered a crime in Canada; or
– committed an act outside of Canada that is considered a crime under the laws of the country where it occurred and would be punishable under Canadian law.
In order to determine inadmissibility, foreign convictions and laws are equated to Canadian law as if they had occurred in Canada.
Rehabilitation removes the grounds of criminal inadmissibility. Rehabilitation means that you lead a stable lifestyle and that you are unlikely to be involved in any further criminal activity.
You are eligible to apply for rehabilitation if you have:
– committed an act outside of Canada, and five (5) years have elapsed since the act;
– been convicted outside of Canada, and five (5) years have passed since the end of the sentence imposed.
